A beautiful film by now great friend and confidant Phil Basi, Programme Leader in Media Production (BA Hons) and Principal Lecturer in TV Production at the University of Derby. Phil has created an insightful film exploring South Asian migration to Derby. Working with the historic 160-year-old W.W. Winter photographic studio — still operating in Derby today — Phil helped bring to life the powerful role photography played in the lives of newly arrived communities. He was also instrumental in supporting the Derby Yaadaañ Archive. Through his film, he reflects on family, the vital contribution Punjabi communities made to South Asian migration, and the dignity that the W.W. Winter studio gave to South Asian people during the formative years of migration. BCVA Director Anand Chhabra makes an appearance on Phil Basi’s film about the impact of WWWinters archive on the South Asian community.
